Tuck decides to try and find someone so he places his profile on a dating website. Lauren, a woman also looking for a guy sees Tuck's profile and goes with him. She later bumps into Frank and he hits on her and she goes out with him. She's intrigued by both of them. When they learn that they're dating the same girl, they agree to let her choose. But both can't help but use their skills to keep tabs on her and each other. And also sabotage each other's dates with her.
In Los Angeles, Franklin Foster - FDR to his friends - and Tuck Hansen are best friends and partners as undercover CIA agents, however recently reassigned to desk jobs after a covert operation gone wrong, which resulted in the death of criminal Jonas Heinrich, and his brother Karl Heinrich being able to escape, he who vows revenge on the two. Being undercover, not even their closest friends and family know what FDR and Tuck do, those people believing the covers of them being a cruise ship captain and travel agent respectively. The two are different when it comes to their love life. FDR is a serial womanizer and party boy. Tuck is a recently divorced father, who still wants the traditional family life with his ex-wife Katie and their young adolescent son Joe, that life which does not seem like it will happen. Each of their love lives take a turn when they meet through different channels Lauren Scott, an executive at a consumer product testing company. Lauren, relatively new to Los Angeles, is just reentering the dating scene after her last relationship went sour. FDR and Tuck eventually learn that they are both dating Lauren, who each believes could be the true love of their respective life. As neither will forgo Lauren for the other, they set some ground rules in their relationships with her, including not telling her that they know each other or that they know she is dating "someone else", that they will not sleep with her, and that they will not let her get in the way of their friendship and partnership. But as their feelings for Lauren grows, their rules may go out the window, with each doing whatever needed to win Lauren, even at the expense of their friendship. Conversely, Lauren loves both men, and receives dating advice from her best friend, married, over-sexed and straight talking Trish. Through it all, Heinrich could reenter the picture, he who could change the face of what's happening in their personal lives.
This movie was somewhat a reluctant watch for me but I was pleasantly surprised. A typical date night movie with the girlfriend but this movie shone out as one that really made me laugh and had enough humour to keep me interested for the duration of it.<br/><br/>Set around a simple plot of two guys going for the same girl, the twist is these guys are both CIA Agents with access to unlimited resources of investigation, who knew how helpful this could be for wooing a girl. What could be more fun than someone already giving you a list of her likes and dislikes before a date? Seemingly providing the removal all the rookie mistakes men make when dating. What makes this movie most enjoyable is how both parties are so determined to get the girl they will go to all lengths to sabotage the others efforts. Given their access to CIA resources this is taken to all new levels.<br/><br/>As the story develops it becomes less about the battle to get the girl and more about the friendship of two great friends and the affect this fight is having on them. This brings enough emotion into the movie for the girls to enjoy but isn&#39;t overplayed which is a refreshing change.<br/><br/>Reese Witherspoon a consistent performer in chick flicks which was a major reason for my reluctant-ness to see this movie, however backed up well with the focus mainly being on her co-stars Chris Pine and Tom Hardy it worked well. The relationships didn&#39;t come across as genuine and certainly wouldn&#39;t be winning Oscars but was enough to keep me entertained.<br/><br/>If you go in expecting a chick flick you will be pleasantly surprised. I give this movie 3 out of 5 stars in its genre. Have fun.
When I first saw the trailers for this it looked like it would be a pretty good movie. When I managed to catch it on TV however I was disappointed. This Means War is not particularly funny or romantic or action packed, its just average on all counts.<br/><br/>Chris Pine and Tom Hardy play two of the world&#39;s deadliest CIA operatives best friends and inseparable as partners, until they discover that they&#39;ve fallen in love with the same woman, then all bets are off.<br/><br/>Pine and Hardy are definitely nice to look at and have good chemistry together but I had a real hard time believing that they&#39;d be fighting over an ageing Reese Witherspoon -sorry but she&#39;s just too old for this role even though she did a decent enough job. Chelsea handler was quite funny as her cocktail wielding BFF and there were a few fun moments but a completely forgettable movie.
"War" is depressingly mean-spirited.
This Means War is based on a screenplay co-written by Timothy Dowling, Marcus Gautesen, and Simon Kinberg (who also co-produced). &quot;Good Love&quot; by Kram. The song was Woman by the Australian rock band Wolfmother. It has become a common phenomenon that Director&#39;s Cuts are only released on Blu-ray disc, which also is the case here. Since May 22th, 2012, it has been available for purchase in US shops. A direct comparison of the two versions identifies the Director&#39;s Cut as a bluff package. The only &quot;sexual&quot; content is a harmless intro in a James Bond style. The most of the additional running time consists of the &#39;fake family scene&#39;, in which Tuck Henson pays a few actors to play his family in order to impress Lauren. In order to get the more lucrative PG-13 for its theatrical release, some &quot;sleazy&quot; scenes needed to be removed. The PG-13 version is also the version that has been released on DVD in several countries.
